American Action Network Begins $2 Million TV Ad Blitz To Promote Tax Reform

Spot features middle-class family of four, will air in 28 congressional districts nationwide

WASHINGTON – American Action Network’s Middle-Class Growth Initiative (MCGI) announced a new $2 million issue advocacy campaign highlighting the tax reform framework that prioritizes tax cuts for middle-class families and job creators. The TV ad, “Paycheck to Paycheck,” features a middle-class family from Michigan discussing the struggles and stress of living paycheck to paycheck, and calls on Congress to pass a simpler, fairer tax code with lower rates. The ad will run for two weeks on national cable and in 28 congressional districts nationwide. List of districts targeted here.

“Fifty percent of American families are living paycheck to paycheck, struggling under an outdated and unfair tax code that works against them every day,” said AAN Executive Director Corry Bliss. “The White House and congressional leaders have put forward a plan to make our tax code simpler and fairer with lower rates giving hardworking families a tax cut of $1,200 a year. Congress now has the responsibility to act quickly and give middle-class families like the Skowronskis some tax relief and peace of mind.”

The new ad features Melissa and Thad Skowronski from Lawrence, Michigan. Both Melissa and Thad work hard to provide for their family of four, but like many American families are living paycheck to paycheck. Melissa is a registered nurse and IT analyst at a health care group, and Thad owns a small business that installs and maintains draft beer systems. After struggling under an unfair and outdated tax code, Melissa and Thad are calling on Congress to pass a fairer, simpler tax code with lower taxes for working families. The Skowronskis long for the day when they can save for retirement and their kids’ college education.

MELISSA: Our family is living paycheck to paycheck,

It’s a lot of stress, from month to month.

We have to make some really tough choices about when and how to spend our money.

We just can’t get ahead.

I would like to see Congress make middle-class tax cuts a priority for families like mine.

A simpler, fairer tax code – with tax cuts for working families – will give us some peace of mind,

And closing loopholes means everyone pays their fair share.

So thank [Member of Congress], [he’s/she’s] fighting for tax cuts that will help working families.
