American Action Network Releases 2016 Medicare Advantage Cuts Impact Per Congressional District

DontCutOurMedicare.com Shows District-by-District Data of Obamacare’s Medicare Advantage Cuts Costing Seniors

WASHINGTON – The American Action Network today released a study examining the latest cumulative impact of Obamacare’s Medicare Advantage cuts at the congressional district level. Including the latest cuts finalized in April 2016, the district-by-district analysis shows the average consequences per senior of Medicare Advantage (MA) cuts due to Obamacare and additional Obama Administration actions.

“Obamacare has spared no congressional district in its ongoing assault of seniors’ health care,” said Emily Davis, AAN Communications Director. “Obamacare’s cuts to Medicare Advantage are forcing millions of seniors to face higher costs, fewer benefits and less physician access. Each day, seniors nationwide are experiencing the broken promises of a disastrous health care law that is falling under its own weight.”

Featured at DontCutOurMedicare.com, the congressional district study calculates the average MA cut per senior by comparing county-level Medicare Advantage rates before Obamacare to the actual benefit cuts and senior enrollment each year since Obamacare became law. Nationwide, seniors face an annual benefits cut of -$2,976 (or -21.8 percent), when compared with MA projections before Obamacare. The highest cuts are -$9,802 and -46 percent, both in districts in New York.

Nearly 18 million seniors nationwide depend on Medicare Advantage for their personal health care, accounting for nearly one-third of all Medicare beneficiaries. When Obamacare became law in 2010, it cut $716 billion from Medicare to fund the new law, including $156 billion in direct cuts to the MA program.

In March, American Action Network launched a $500,000 issue advocacy campaign opposing the Obama Administration’s latest Medicare Advantage cuts. Thousands of seniors signed a petition against the cuts at DontCutOurMedicare.com.
